GRENOBLE, France: Five people were killed Wednesday when they fell while climbing in the French Alps, authorities said.
Attached to each other by a rope, the five were climbing on ice near the town of La-Chapelle-en-Valgaudemar when one person fell, dragging the others down, the prefecture in the Hautes-Alpes region said.
The identities of the victims have not been released, but several of the victims — two men, one woman and two girls — were members of the same family from the nearby Rhone-Alpes region, the prefecture said. Further details were not immediately available.
